Your website in 6 Steps

Before you start: What you need before the website can be built

Before our Web Developers can start building your site you need to have the following things ready:

Step 1: Fill out your Website Brief

To get started, fill out your own copy of the Website Brief template (which your TERN team member will provide in your Google Drive folder). They will help you decide which platform to use to develop and host your website:

Step 2: Web Developer creates a draft of your site

Once your Brief is complete, we will pass it on to our Web Developer Partner. Your website will be built using either Canva or Wix based on the ideas documented in the brief. When the developers have everything they need, they will begin working on your website, and we will inform you of this.

Step 3: Provide Feedback on the Website Draft

You, your TERN team member, and any TERN volunteers working with you can provide feedback on the first draft either directly in Canva or using a website called Pastel. To do this, you will need a free account with Canva or Pastel. If preferred, your TERN team member can facilitate a call where you review the website and share your feedback in real time — they will document your feedback and share this with the web developer.

Step 4: Finalise the Site, Purchase the Website Domain in CANVA, and Go Live

Once the site is final, you can purchase the website domain in CANVA, and your site will go live! Watch this video tutorial to understand how to purchase a new domain name through Canva.

Step 5: Add your Website Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy

We have a dedicated service with a partner organization called Net Lawman that can help you draft your website terms and conditions, free of charge for TERN community members. These documents can then be added to your website to make it fully professional and compliant. However, it is okay to go live with your site beforehand.
